MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Last year, the Montana State University Billings Library Quilt Show had a record breaking number of entries.
The annual show is now in its 13th year, and Library Interim Director Megan Thomas said they hope to draw more than the 77 final entries received last winter.
The library is now calling for submissions and will be accepting quilts to display. People and organizations from throughout the community are welcome to drop off their quilts from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the library, located on the University Campus, at 1500 University Drive.
The quilt show will be held from January 18 through March 3. The public is welcome to view the quilts, free, during regular library hours: Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“We host the show and people participate in it simply for the love of quilting,” Thomas said. “It’s an event that continues to grow and we always get a good turnout of people that come and see the display.”
A non-juried show, it is an excellent opportunity for quilters of all skill levels.
As in the past, quilts will be hung from the ceiling of the library and probably include everything from king-sized applique to small, decorative quilts.
“We never really know what we’re going to get until people bring them down, which really makes it exciting and fun,” Thomas said.
This year, a quilt will be raffled off by the Big Sky Quilt Association, said Spokeswoman Kathy Gurney. Proceeds help fund the groups’ semi-annual quilting retreat, held in March at the Shrine Auditorium.
The BSQA consists of approximately 150 members between two quilt guilds in Billings: Yellowstone Valley Quilt Guild and Quilt By Association.
The SCRAPtacular 2017 quilt to be raffled off is an impressive 84-inch by 108-inch masterpiece quilted by Tanith Daughtery and pieced together by members of both guilds.
Tickets will be available at the MSUB Library during the quilt show for $1 each or 6 for $5.
