MSU BILLINGS NEWS — Montana State University Billings honored an outstanding group of students, organizations, and staff on Thursday, April 4 at the annual Leadership Recognition Program awards banquet. This year’s events were held on the MSUB campus in the Glacier Room.
The theme for the 2019 banquet, “Spark”, focused on the ignition of passion and leadership in students and staff over the past year. Several definitions of the word spark served as the basis for this year’s theme, including “something that sets off a sudden force,” “to respond with enthusiasm,” and “to stir to activity,” according to Chase Greenfield, Student Engagement Coordinator.
“We expect to see this spark grow in our student leaders throughout their time here, and in their future endeavors until it becomes a strong fire,” said Greenfield.
Students, staff, and organizations were recognized for their efforts and accomplishments throughout the past year through various awards. Winners and nominees alike show a dedication to MSUB that is admired by their peers, the campus, and the community.
While there was no keynote speaker at the 2019 event, attendees took part in honoring Kristin Peterman for her over 15 years of service as Director of the Center for Engagement. She will be moving to a new position at New Student Services in the fall. “The students gave her a standing ovation,” said Greenfield. “For all she has done throughout her career to ignite student leadership on campus.”
Lili Delgadillo was named Outstanding President of the year for her work with the Student Activities Board (SAB), a student group with a goal to provide fun, free, and exciting programs to enhance the student experience at MSUB.
