MSU Billings to break ground for new science and allied health building

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Students, alumni, friends and supporters of Montana State University Billings are invited to attend a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Yellowstone Science and Allied Health Building on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

 

Beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the current science building parking lot at MSU Billings, representatives from campus, legislators, and major donors will be among those who receive golden shovels and break ground. The public is invited to stay for a reception immediately following the ceremony.

 

The MSU Billings Foundation was tasked in 2013 with raising $5 million for an expanded and renovated building that will house both the sciences and allied health programs when complete. These funds were required by the state legislature as a condition of a $10 million appropriation. The $15 million will be used to update the current science building, originally built in 1947.

 

“We could not have reached this milestone without the generosity of more than 500 donors who contributed to our campaign,” said MSU Billings Foundation President and CEO Bill Kennedy. “Because of their support, MSU Billings will have state-of-the-art facilities to match the exceptional education students have received here for 91 years. Now, we invite everyone who donated, volunteered and supported this project to come celebrate this success for the MSU Billings campus and our community.”

 

Fundraising continues toward a $200,000 goal to cover additional costs. The MSU Billings Foundation will have bricks for sale during the groundbreaking. A 4-by-8-inch brick is $250, and an 8-by-8-inch brick is $500. Personalized and engraved bricks will be laid into a walkway near the completed building.
