Finalists Announced for Dean of City College at MSU Billings

MSU BILLINGS NEWS—The search committee for the Dean of City College at Montana State University Billings has announced the final candidates for the position. They include Florence Garcia, David Gurchiek, and Vicki Trier.
The candidates will meet with City College and MSU Billings students, faculty, and staff. Each candidate will present on the topic, “What would be your role to expand and solidify City College’s partnership with the University Campus?” during an open forum.
The forums will be held at 4 p.m. in the City College Health Science Building, room 119 on the below days. These sessions are open to the public. The forum allows time for attendees to ask questions and provide valuable feedback to the search committee.
- Wednesday, October 10 – Florence Garcia
- Thursday, October 18 – David Gurchiek
- Wednesday, October 24 – Vicki Trier
Florence Garcia is currently the Interim Dean of City College at MSU Billings. Before assuming this position, she was the Associate Dean of City College and Native American Student Services Coordinator. Garcia holds an Ed.D. in Adult and Higher Education from Montana State University, as well as a master’s degree in Special Education and a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from MSU Billings (then Eastern Montana College). Prior to joining City College, Garcia was the President of Fort Peck Community College.
David Gurchiek is currently the Dean of Highlands College at Montana Tech. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Services with a focus in Public Safety from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minn. in addition to a master’s degree in Health Administration and Wellness from California College for Health Sciences in San Diego. Prior to joining Montana Tech, Gurchiek served as Interim Associate Dean for City College at MSU Billings, and Department Chair of Nursing, Health, and Public Safety Programs.
Vicki Trier is currently the Executive Dean for the School of Professional and Technical Careers at Lane Community College in Eugene, Ore. She holds a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Higher Education Administration from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, and a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. Prior to working for Lane Community College, Trier served as the Dean of Instruction for the Division of Arts and Sciences at Spokane Community College in Spokane, Wash.
The search committee for Dean of City College at MSU Billings is comprised of Scott Anderson, Lisa Skriner, Stacey Teague, Stephanie Cowen, Robert Hietala, Halle Keltner, Kelly McCoy, Keith Edgerton, Brittney Souza, Bruce Brumley, Heather Thompson-Bahm, Eileen Wright, Vern Gagnon, Sheri Steiner, and Christine Shearer.
