Veteran’s Medicine Wheel to honor vets at MSU Billings

MSU BILLINGS NEWS—The Native American Achievement Center at MSU Billings invites students, faculty, staff, and members of the Billings community to participate in the building of this year’s Veteran’s Medicine Wheel.

At 11:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, the ninth annual Veteran’s Medicine Wheel event will begin in Library room 231. The opening ceremony will be held indoors and includes narration of the story of the Medicine Wheel, presentation of flags and pledge of allegiance by MSUB ROTC color guard, and musical performances by MSUB students.

Following the opening ceremony, faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to gather on the north lawn outside of the College of Education building to help build a medicine wheel in honor of veterans and those currently serving in the military. Participants are encouraged to dedicate a stone to a veteran in their life by writing the veteran’s name on a rock and placing it in the medicine wheel.

This event honors veterans’ service and symbolizes their spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical restoration of balance with their community supporting them throughout the process.

This event is free, open to the public, and will be held regardless of inclement weather. As a reminder, MSUB’s offices will be closed and no classes will be held on Monday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day.
