MSU Billings offers variety of summer camps for youth

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Are you looking for an educational but fun way for your rising 2^nd-through-9^th-grade student to spend the summer? Have him or her come spend a week on the MSU Billings or City College campus and see what it is like to learn in the university setting!

MSUB summer camps are a fun way to study a new topic or practice ongoing interests while making new friends and keeping young brains active throughout the summer. Academic-based camps are offered for a variety of different interests and age ranges through two different programs: I THINK and Kids on Campus. The camps in both programs are taught by highly-qualified, professional educators working either at MSU Billings and City College as faculty members or as K-12 educators.

Kids on Campus programs offer a wide range of choices from art to cooking to crime scene investigation. Students can participate in a Mystery Camp, where they can solve a complex mystery that unfolds over the course of five days by using critical thinking, or Lights and Sirens 101, where students can practice lifesaving skills, see a Billings Fire Department truck up close and have hands-on experience with EMS. The I Think programs are for students who excel in the classroom, and for this reason students who wish to enroll in these camps will need to demonstrate that they perform above average in their coursework. Students will need to submit a copy of their report card demonstrating a 3.0 GPA or higher (or equivalent grades) and will also need a school educator to submit a recommendation form prior to registration. These camps offer a challenging, problem-solving and creative learning environment through areas such as Lego Robotics, Coding, and Raspberry Pi (where your student will learn how to program and build his or her own computer). Scholarships are available for both I Think and Kids on Campus camps. These were set up to assist students who would not be able to attend a camp without some financial assistance. The application for these scholarships can be found here.
