Dr. Clifford P. Coppersmith to Become President of Chesapeake College

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Dr. Clifford P. Coppersmith has been named president of the Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, Md. He will begin his role as president on May 29, 2018.
In his nearly three-year tenure City College at Montana State University Billings, Coppersmith developed a shared vision for City College, motivated others to adopt that vision through his leadership, fostered strong relationships with Billings and surrounding communities, and built partnerships with business, industry, area high schools, government, and community organizations.
Additional accomplishments include:
- Expansion of the relationship between City College and the Career Center with growth in dual enrollment and links with applied technology programs between the two institutions.
- Successful execution of the Health Care Montana Grant to renew the nursing curriculum and to create new programs in pharmacy technology and sonography.
- Expansion of the Fire Science program and successful program accreditation.
- Helped secure the America’s Promise Grant ($1.28 million of a $5 million total award), in partnership with the Northern Wyoming Community College District which provides direct financial assistance to students in high-demand applied technology majors.
Coppersmith holds four academic degrees: A doctorate in history and anthropology from Oklahoma State University; a master’s in history from St. Bonaventure University in New York State; a bachelor’s in political science and Latin American studies from Brigham Young University in Utah; and an associate in social science from Jamestown Community College in New York State.
“Cliff helped to maintain and grow a strong array of programs and expanded access to higher education for many Montanans,” shared Dr. Robert Hoar, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “Our students, faculty, staff, and community partners all benefitted from his extensive experience and strong leadership.”
Coppersmith plans to conclude his role at MSUB after Commencement.
The Dean of City College at MSU Billings is an important position for the university. The search process for this position will begin immediately.
