MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Brenna Lacy will host her solo senior capstone exhibit April 2 through April 13, 2018 in the student gallery, located on the first floor of the liberal arts building at Montana State University Billings. A reception will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 5. The show and reception are free and open to the public.
Melotrauma investigates the correlation between catharsis and the notion of the artist's abject female body. The work attempts to resolve the conflict between personal experiences of sexual trauma and the ethics of exploiting those personal experiences.
The artist uses an immersive installation of large-scale drawings, representation of bodily fluids, the female form and innuendos to take control over her own female narrative. Through this act of confronting and exposing previous encounters, the artist asserts that there is ecstasy in taking agency in a situation where, previously, pleasure was not permitted.
