MSU Billings announces Interim Dean of the College of Allied Health Professions

Former orthopedic surgeon brings wealth of health experience

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES —Montana State University Billings has named John Robert Dorr, M.D., as the Interim Dean of the College of Allied Health Professions. With a breadth of experience in the medical field focused on orthopedics, Dorr has worked as an orthopedic surgeon at St. Vincent Hospital and Ortho Montana, lectured on sports medicine and general orthopedics, and taught classes at both MSU Billings and Rocky Mountain College.

“John’s robust health background and community ties will serve him well as the Interim Dean. I am confident in Dorr’s fit at MSUB and know student success is his priority,” commented MSU Billings Chancellor Dr. Dan Edelman. “Faculty and staff in the College of Allied Health Professions have expressed their support for John.”

A military veteran, Dorr currently serves on the RiverStone Board of Health as vice chair as well as the Governance Committee and Patient Safety and Quality Committee. When not in the medical field, Dorr volunteers as a youth soccer coach, a role he has fulfilled since 1995 for both Magic City soccer teams and as head coach of Skyview boys and West High girls teams.

Dorr received an associate degree from Foothill Junior College in Los Altos, Calif., a bachelor’s degree from University of California in Santa Barbara, Calif., and a doctoral degree from University of California, San Francisco Medical School. He completed his internship in Seattle, Wash. and residency in Orthopedic Surgery at UC San Francisco.  Upon becoming a doctor, he worked in Honolulu, Hawaii and California  before enlisting in the Army. Dorr came to Billings in 1975, where he practiced until 2013.
