MSUB Music Department presents Jazz Fest 1/26

Alex Iles is featured headliner for 7:00 p.m. concert at Petro Theater

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The MSU Billings Music Department presents their annual Jazz Festival Concert on Friday, January 26 at Petro Theater from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

 

Alex Iles
World-class trombone player and Los Angeles session player, Alex Iles, is this year’s headliner. Iles recently recorded on The Last Jedi” and has played music for The Incredibles, Spiderman 1 and 2, Pirates of the Caribbean, Seinfeld,Polar Express, and Planet of the Apes.  He has been lead trombone with Maynard Ferguson and Woody Herman, Henry Mancini, Gordon Goodwin, and Harry Connick Jr.

 

Other notable musicians performing at Jazz Fest include MSUB professor Scott Jeppesen on tenor sax, and Bob Bowman on upright bass. Jeppesen spent many years in Los Angeles as a jazz musician, multi-instrumentalist and composer. He has performed with Maria Schneider, Bobby McFerrin, Burt Bacharach, Stevie Wonder, Nancy Wilson, Artie Shaw, Bob Mintzer, Dave Brubeck, Natalie Cole, Louis Bellson, Al Jarreau, Steve Miller, and Randy Brecker. Bowman resides part-time in Montana and spent many years with Thad Jones and Mel Lewis (with whom he earned a Grammy), Freddie Hubbard, Bud Shank, Frank Mantooth, and Toshiko Akiyoshi.  

 

Brennan Baglio, is the Director of Choirs at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, where he directs the Studio Singers, Collegiate Chorale, and teaches second year music theory and aural skills classes. Brennan is a native of the Seattle area and previously taught choir, piano, voice, and music technology courses at Bellevue College. Brennan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting, both from Central Washington University. Learn more about Baglio at nwc.edu/brennan.

 

The concert is open to the public for a $10 admission fee. MSUB students admitted free with a valid MSUB ID. Tickets may be purchased at MSU Billings Music Dept. office, onsite at the concert, or online at www.msubillings.edu/jazz. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m.

Local and regional college, high school, and junior high jazz ensembles will also perform in the festival on January 26 from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM in Petro and Cisel Hall, peppered with artists clinics and performances. All are welcome to attend free of charge. Top student soloists of the festival will be awarded at the evening concert.
