MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Today through Jan. 12, over 700 middle school students from Billings and the surrounding area will visit City College for Lewis and Clark Week. The program is presented by Our Montana Inc.

This is the thirteenth year of this unique learning opportunity, that has earned a national award as an educational program, shared Judy Foster, program founder and coordinator.

Numerous volunteers play an integral role in Lewis and Clark Week, each presenting different stations focused on medicine, weather, food, buffalo, communication and more. One station features a live buffalo calf.

Each station is designed specifically for a Middle-School audience (7th Grade) to give them hands on demonstrations of the technologies that members of the Lewis and Clark Expedition used to meet the challenges of their endeavor, as well as, current technologies we use today to accomplish the same tasks.

“It’s all about connecting students with what happened during the Lewis and Clark expedition,” Foster shared. “And comparing the technology they had to the technology available today.”

Before arriving at the City College campus they stop at Pompey’s Pillar National Monument for a military presentation.

"We appreciate the opportunity to support Lewis & Clark Week,” shared City College Dean Clifford Coppersmith. “It is a fantastic program that familiarizes young people with the world class history that occurred right here in our own back yard."
