MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Over the past year, members of the MSU Billings campus and the local community have created individual quilt squares for an Empowerment Quilt. Sponsored by the MSUB Women’s and Gender Studies Center and Phoenix Center, this quilt honors survivors of sexual assault and advocates who fight for change and social justice. Join us at the Women’s and Gender Studies Center (LA 201) at MSUB this Thursday (September 28) anytime between 2 PM – 5 PM to help sew together the quilt. No experience is necessary and all supplies will be provided, along with refreshments.
Quilting has long been an intergenerational activity, with grandmothers, mothers, and daughters working together to create a quilt for their family or community. “We’re excited to complete our quilt and thank everybody who took the time to create a square,” said Dr. Jennifer Lynn, Director of the WGSC. As part of a family tradition of quilting, Dr. Lynn’s mother, Lorrie Lynn will be helping with the quilting bee and they will be using her grandmother’s quilting frames. Each quilt square has a message of encouragement, support, and empowerment.
The event is free and open to the public. Please contact Dr. Jennifer Lynn for more information, jennifer.lynn1@msubillings.edu or 406.657.2922.
