MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The last thing anyone wants to deal with during the dead of winter is a car that won’t start.

That’s why you should take advantage of the free vehicle winterization clinic to be hosted by automotive students and SkillsUSA Club members at City College at Montana State University Billings on Saturday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students, supervised by staff, will inspect vehicles (both foreign and domestic) for battery condition, safe tire pressures and conditions, proper fluid levels (including coolant), belt and hose inspection. They will make recommendations as needed.

This is the fourth year that City College students have offered this service as a community service project.  While not required, donations will be accepted with all funds raised going to help pay for the club’s travel to the SkillsUSA state competition in Havre. Last year’s team took home top awards in several competition areas, with four students advancing to the national-level competition in Louisville, Kentucky.

Department Chair for Transportation and Welding Fabrication and SkillsUSA advisor, Kat Pfau, said the clinic is a great way for the group to give back to the community, as some students have never volunteered before. “It is nice to see the students’ reactions and how they feel after helping out,” she said. “This is something that I have all of my classes do and it truly is a service for the community”.

Our changing fall weather should bolster this year’s turnout, Pfau added.  Last year was steady with at least one vehicle in the shop undergoing inspection at a time.

Refreshments will be provided for people to enjoy while waiting for their vehicles to be looked over.
