MSUB’s Music Department Announces Percussion Ensemble Fall Concert in Cisel Recital Hall

Recital takes place at 7:30 p.m., Monday, November 21; admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for MSUB students, faculty and staff with ID

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — When hearing the word “percussion,” many people may think of the rhythmically keeping “bop, bop, bop,” of a bass drum, or a hard rock drummer solo spinning an epic set.

At 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 21, the Montana State University Billings Percussion Ensemble will present a fall concert showcasing all that percussion has to offer in the Cisel Recital Hall.

The concert, under the direction of Adjunct Professor Luke Kestner, will feature pieces by Harry Breuer, Eric Satie, George Hamilton Green, Michael Udow and more.

Performing on a plethora of instruments including the marimba, xylophone, timpani, and shekere concert goers will get to hear a wide variety of “complex harmonies, melodies and rhythms,” Kestner said. 

A particularly fun song, “Back Talk,” by Breuer, will have the audience tapping their toes.

“It is a really fun rag-time piece,” Kestner said.

Additionally, the concert will feature soloists throughout by members of the small chamber group.

Featured soloists will include percussion majors Tyler Briceno, Ian Mieksel, Curtis Steiger and Dillon Steiger.

Admission into the concert is $5 for adults, $3 for students and is free for MSUB students, faculty and staff with a valid ID.
