MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Orientation and registration sessions for the fall 2015 semester at Montana State University Billings are under way and will continue through the summer.

MSUB offers incoming freshman, adult, transfer and international student orientations starting in June.

“The purpose of orientations at MSUB is to ensure that students have a successful transition and integration into college life," Tammi Watson, director of new student and retention services, said. “We have a variety of sessions to fit the needs of freshmen, international and transfer students, or as an adult learner returning to college after time away.”

All incoming high school seniors who are attending the four-year campus or City College in the fall semester are required to participate in an overnight orientation session. This mandatory orientation serves as an introduction to the campus and affords students the opportunity to meet other freshmen, faculty and staff before they begin their journey at MSUB. Students can also get help with advising, financial aid and registration.

Eight student orientation leaders will aid freshmen during the orientation: Trey Jacobsen, Shanna Seibel and Molly Markus, of Billings; Miranda McNeil, of Park City; Alesha Erfle, of Rapleje; Kristen Wederski, of Riverton, Wyo.; Tionna Kober, of Missoula; and Baudry Metangmo, of Douala, Cameroon, Africa.

Second-time orientation leader, McNeil, a junior double majoring in elementary education and mathematics, said her freshman orientation experience two summers ago was very helpful.

“One of the most significant parts of my freshman orientation was meeting new people who were going through the same transition,” McNeil said. “Equally as important was getting an idea of where things were on campus so I wasn’t so overwhelmed come the first day of class.

“Now, as an orientation leader, it’s great to have the opportunity to help other incoming students feel less overwhelmed about leaving home and coming to college.”

Overnight sessions will be offered for freshman students and their families on the following dates: June 4-5; June 18-19; July 9-10; July 23-24 and August 6-7.

Orientations for transfer students and adult learners will take place August 11 and August 14. Students can participate in orientation at either the City College campus or the university campus, depending on their four-year or two-year degree options.
