MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Montana State University Billings will host a continuing series of public lectures beginning Feb. 10, commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Scholars from the fields of history, science, international studies, Native American studies, English and music will consider the diffuse influence and legacy of what was supposed to be “The war to end all wars."

Sponsored by the MSUB Library, the spring series is a continuation from the fall semester and begins with professor Dr. Paul Foster's "Into the Bloody Fray: Montana's Return to the Home Front in WWI.”

Lectures are free and open to the public. Presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held on the university campus, 1500 University Drive, in the library building, room 148. Receptions with light refreshments will follow each lecture.

The series will feature presentations ranging from American Indian and women’s involvement, chemical weapons, the 1918 influenza pandemic, when Montanans returned home and poetry during the WWI-era.

Feb. 24: Dr. Tom Lewis: WWI, Chemical Weapons, and the 1918 Influenza Pandemic

March 10: Dr. Sam Boerboom & Dr Emily Arendt: Democracy Should Begin at Home: Women and the Great War

March 17: Tami Haaland: Down the CLose Darkening Lanes: Poetry of WWI
