“This is a huge honor and I accept it, collectively, on behalf of the Yellowjackets team, my assistant coaches and the entire athletics department,” Woodin said. “It was a very special season and I feel very fortunate to be the women’s basketball head coach at MSU Billings."

Woodin just finished his tenth season as the head women’s basketball coach at MSUB, leading his team to a record-breaking season and to the title game of the NCAA Division II West Regional championships.

The team finished the season with a 23-6 overall record including a perfect 15-0 record at home.

Under his guidance, the Yellowjackets women’s basketball team has made the postseason seven out of 10 times, while his team had the top women’s grade point average in the GNAC four years running. During the 2004-05 season, he was named the NCAA Division II Independent Coach of the Year. He was also the 2006-07 Heartland Coach of the Year.

Player Bobbi Knudsen earned the GNAC Player of the Year honor and was also named to two All-American teams—one of three players from the conference to earn the honor.

A native of Libby, Woodin graduated in 1987 with a degree in mathematics from Carroll College and a master’s degree in athletic administration in 1992 from Seattle Pacific University.

Woodin taught mathematics at O’Dea High School in Seattle from 1987 to 1994 while also coaching boys’ basketball, golf and tennis. He was named O’Dea’s Outstanding Teacher of the year in 1990-1991 and the Metro League Golf Coach of the Year three times.
