The show, located near the Northcutt Steele Gallery on the main floor of the Liberal Arts Building, is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“Pieces of Me” features a collection of drawings, paintings, digital and mixed media artworks that explore the artist’s journey of discovering her artistic identity through the genre of self-portraiture. The collection examines both the artist’s emotional and technical struggles and triumphs of finding her place within the fine art world and how those experiences will build a strong foundation for her ultimate goal of helping students recognize their own unique artistic voice in the art classroom.
Returning to study art education after a 20-plus year career in graphic design, Zimmermann will graduate from MSU Billings with a bachelor’s degree in art education in January 2013. She is a former owner of Creative Design Works in Red Lodge, where she designed print and web-based projects for any local and regional companies as well as marketing pieces for the city of Red Lodge. As a future educator, she said she now looks forward to working with students in a variety of graphic and fine art media.
In conjunction with the opening reception for ceramic artist Benjie Heu at the Northcutt Steele Gallery, a closing reception for Zimmermann will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 5-7 p.m. just outside the Student Gallery.
