MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The Drama Committee of the Associated Students of Montana State University Billings begins its spring production of “The 39 Steps” this week.
The Tony-award winning play will be performed Feb. 1-4 and again Feb. 8-11 in Liberal Arts Room 620 on the MSU Billings four-year campus. All show times are at 7:30 p.m.
The play, adapted by Patrick Barlow, is a two- time Tony Award winner, and will feature a talented cast of undergraduate students under the direction of Bobbi Kaye Kupfner, president of the student-led Drama Committee.
“The 39 Steps” is a suspenseful comedy of an ordinary man, Richard Hanney, who is seeking a frivolous night out at the theatre and is suddenly lured into a world of mystery by a woman claiming to be a spy. When she winds up dead in his flat, he flees London, causing a nationwide manhunt. The play is a hysterical portrayal of a man on the run from wrong accusations with a series of misadventures, topped off with good old-fashioned romance.
“The 39 Steps” features a cast which reenacts all of the characters, locations, and famous scenes in Hitchcock’s 1935 film with just a few props, theatrical inventiveness and split-second quick changes.
The MSU Billings cast includes:
- Casey White as Richard Hanney
- Sean Slaugh as Mr. Memory
- Amanda Losness as Anabella Scmidt/ Various
- Amanda Grubbs as Pamela Edwards
- Courtney Keyes as Margaret/ Various
