MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The Montana State University Billings men’s basketball team will have a special guest at their Great Northwest Athletic Conference showdown against Seattle Pacific on Saturday night. Former 13-year NBA pro and two-time champion with the Boston Celtics, Scott Wedman, will pay a visit to the Yellowjackets this weekend at practice and shoot-around.

“It is an honor to have an NBA legend who won two NBA titles and was twice an NBA All-Star taking the time out of his busy schedule to come to our university and support our men’s basketball program,” said head coach George Pfeifer. “This wonderful memory is taking place because of Coach Wetzel and the relationship he developed coaching with Scott in the CBA.”

 

During his time in Billings, Wedman will be having dinner with newly inducted MSUB Hall of Fame and Distinction inductee, Dennis Whitmore, and the MSUB coaching staff as part of an MSUB Dinner Auction package. He will also attend an MSUB basketball practice to talk with the team and also attend Saturday’s game, which starts at 7 p.m.

 

Wedman, who played on the 1984 and 1986 Celtic’s World Championship teams, played 13 seasons in the league with three different teams. He was drafted in the 1974 draft by the Kansas City-Omaha Kings where he played until 1981 and made two all-star teams.

The Kings made Wedman the 6th overall pick in 1974, drafting him from the University of Colorado.

 

In early 1983, he was traded to the Boston Celtics where he was instrumental as a key player off the bench. Wedman did most of his work from the outside, known for his pure jump shot, coming in often for the likes of Larry Bird and Kevin McHale.

 

Wedman went on to play four seasons with the Celtics, retiring from the sport in 1987. After stints in the American Basketball Association (ABA) and the Continental Basketball Association (CBA), he returned to Kansas City to work on his real estate business and run basketball camps.
