MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Montana State University Billings music performance major Garion Holian will be performing his junior recital on Saturday, April 9, 7:30 p.m. at Cisel Recital Hall. The free performance is open to everyone.
A graduate of Missoula Hellgate High School and a member of the MSU Billings men’s soccer team, Holian will be performing pieces by, Ernest Bloch, Carl Stamitz, Max Bruch, and Johannes Brahms.
Holian came to MSU Billings on a soccer scholarship from Missoula where he garnered the coveted the 2008 Montana Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year Award.
“I chose to come to MSU Billings because Coach Dan McNally identifies with the whole player,” he said.
Yet Holian has another love – his viola.
Before starting MSU in Fall 2008, Holian auditioned and plays with the Billings Symphony under Conductor Anne Harrigan when he is not playing soccer.
“Playing with such talented musicians under Conductor Harrigan is always an honor,” he said. “Soccer and music are very demanding disciplines. I’m grateful that I’ve been able to pursue both disciplines here at MSU Billings with talented coaches and teachers.”
