MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The long white walls lining the North 27th Street tunnel that connects the Physical Education Building to the rest of the Montana State University Billings campus will be getting some new flair this weekend.

 

The Art Students League (ASL) at MSU Billings will be holding a mural painting in and around the tunnel on Saturday, Nov. 6. The event is free and open to the public.

 

It starts at 4 p.m. with the honeycomb background being painted in the tunnel. The other festivities start around 7:30 p.m. when Nathanael Yamaguchi starts graffiti spray-painting the MSU Billings logo centerpiece. There is going to be food, art, and music. Fire spinners will be performing outside.

 

The idea behind this project is to bring the university, Yellowjacket sports and the community together. ASL’s purpose is to encourage the advancement of artistic techniques and to provide support and guidance for the growth of its members towards interest in the arts and community outreach. The ASL uses various fundraising projects to purchase materials and equipment for the MSU Billings Art Department as well as for visiting artists and trips.

 

ASL is open to anyone interested in the arts, both at the university and in the community. Dues-paying member pay $7 to the club and receives 10% off of art supplies at Jackets and Co. bookstores. Honorary (non-dues paying) members can attend meets and participate in events but do not vote. The student-led club holds an annual fundraiser auction in the spring.
