MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — The unmistakable atmosphere of a summer carnival — complete with races, music, food and family fun — will fill the air at this year’s Summerfest at Montana State University Billings.
The university’s annual community celebration of all things that make summer fun, Summerfest is a family-oriented event open to all. It is co-sponsored by the university’s Student Activities Board and the Associated Students of MSU Billings.
The free event is for Tuesday, July 13 from 4-8 p.m. on the grounds of the university’s main campus at 1500 University Drive. It is open to anyone in the area. A barbecue picnic costs $7 for adults and $4 for children 10 and under.
Taking a trip back in time, students organizing the event this year wanted to resurrect some memorable summer activities that draw families and communities together. Those free activities this year include gunny sack races, watermelon seed spitting contests, Hoola Hoop contests and even a pie eating contest.
Music from the 1960s-70s will be provided by the group Kactus Jack.
Families and children can also have fun with inflatable games, a dunking booth and a ring toss game. Cotton candy and snow cones will also be given away free while they last.
For more Summerfest information, call 657-2387 and ask for Darcie.
