Jason Suchan showcases wide selection of music at free event
MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Jason Suchan, a Billings native and award-winning piano student at Montana State University Billings, will present his senior recital on Friday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Cisel Recital Hall. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
Suchan, a graduate of Billings West High School, comes from a musical family. At the age of six, his grandmother was his first piano teacher; he and his sister perform as a piano and clarinet duo; and his aunt is a violinist with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra.
During his college career at MSU Billings, Suchan has been an honor roll student and has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the Marriott, Beardsley and the Gajewski scholarships. He competes nationally and has been a student of Professor Dorothea Cromley for four years. Suchan has received an Honorable Mention in the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition and was a finalist in the Music Teachers National Association Competition, the Ocala Florida Symphony Competition and the Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras (MASO) Competition. His most recent orchestral appearance was performing the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Billings Symphony in October 2009.
His program will cover music written over 100 years ago to just 20 years ago. His selections include an entire Haydn Sonata, a Bach Toccata as well as pieces from Debussy, Liszt, Stravinsky and a premier of a piece by Joan Tower.
