Dr. Matt McMullen lectures on "Self Esteem: Myths & Realities" on March 18

 

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Student leaders in the Associated Students of Montana State University Billings are sponsoring a series of lectures this spring designed to give faculty and deans an opportunity to give a single lecture that best illustrates their zeal for teaching, learning or research.

 

The ASMSUB Faculty Lectures kick off next week featuring Dr. Matt McMullen, professor of psychology. McMullen’s lecture is on "Self Esteem: Myths & Realities" and will take place Wednesday, March 18 at 5 p.m. in the Science Auditorium on the MSU Billings main campus, 1500 University Drive.

 

The event is free and open to students, faculty, staff and the community.

 

Kayla Miller, ASMSUB Student Resolution Officer, said student leaders generated the idea of a special lecture for faculty to provide them one chance to talk about anything they wanted.

 

“We just wanted to give them an opportunity to talk about whatever drives their passion,” she said.

 

McMullen, shown above, received his PhD from Indiana University in 1995, and has been with MSU Billings since 1996. He has numerous publications in journals such as Personality and Social Psychology Review and Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.

 

He received an Academic Research Enhancement Award from the National Institute of Mental Health for 2001-2004, an MSU Billings Faculty Achievement Award in 2006, and was a Fulbright Scholar at Heidelberg University, Germany, in 2007.

 

In April, ASMSUB will host a lecture by Dr. Tasneem Khaleel, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at MSU Billings.
