Nihon University is Japan's largest university, and its main campus is located in the heart of Tokyo. Nihon offers a variety of programs that are taught in English, as well as a Japanese Language and Japan Studies Program (JLSP) that allows students to undergo intensive Japanese language instruction. Due to the sheer size of the university and its primary location in the heart of Tokyo, Nihon has multiple campuses (city buildings) that are located throughout the city. Its International Relations College is located in Mishima in Shizuoka Prefecture, which is where Mt. Fuji is located, about one hour outside of Tokyo via a bullet train.

Accommodations & Costs

MSUB students studying abroad at Nihon University pay MSUB tuition. Student accommodations (single rooms) are available for MSUB students and the locations typically depend on the student's college. Generally, they are about a 40-minute metro ride from the main Nihon campus (the location of the JLSP). The monthly dormitory fee is JPY45,000 ($315), which includes breakfast and dinner on the weekdays. The utility fee is expected to be JPY10,000/month ($70/month), depending on individual use. Students should expect to budget for an estimated monthly cost of JPY100,000 ($670/month), including accommodation, meals, and transportation. These rates are already highly subsidized by Nihon University for exchange students.

Students will be expected to pay up front for accommodation for the full semester upon arrival to the university.

Visas

All students who wish to study in Japan for longer than 90 days must have a student visa. A visa application to Japanese Embassy in the United States is needed. A Certificate of Eligibility from the Ministry of Justice in Japan is also required. This process can take a lot of time and so it is important to start as early as possible. Once the Certificate of Eligibility is received, then students will need to apply for a student visa in-person at the Japanese Consulate in Seattle, WA.
