MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — A lively discussion on Fake News is being sponsored by the Montana State University Billings Library, Billings Public Library, Billings Public Library Foundation.

The event is free and open to the public and takes place at 6:30 p.m., January 31, in the Royal Johnson Community Room at the Billings Public Library, located at 510 North 28^th Street.

Panelists will explore various timely topics such as: What is Fake News?  Why is it important to understand and what does it have to do with me?   As we move to a more technology driven society, how do we sort through the news feeds and decide what to read and what to toss?  What about our constitutional rights of freedom of speech?  What should we believe and who should be responsible for the truth?  

Panelists include; Ed Kemmick, editor of the Last Best News, Pat Bellingshausen, Opinion Page Editor for the Billings Gazette, Dr. Susan Balter-Reitz, Director of eLearning & Professor of Communication, MSUB Information Technology, Institutional Research, and eLearning, and Dr. Melissa Boehm, Assistant Professor, MSUB Communication & Theatre

Gavin Woltjer, Director of the Billings Public Library will serve as the discussion moderator.

Attendees are welcome to bring questions of their own and join these local experts to learn more about the facts, impact, and future of fake news.
