MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — From the politics of health outcomes to lessons from mentoring in Kenya, MSU Billings faculty are broadening their knowledge on topics that affect their areas of study. They will present their findings Wednesday, March 30, in 10-minute presentations, allowing time for questions and answers at the end of the program.
The program will be held in the Liberal Arts Building, room 205, from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
The event and following reception is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Women’s Faculty Caucus and supported by the Women’s and Gender Studies
Center, the program will feature five faculty members from a variety of disciplines.
“This is a great opportunity to celebrate and feature some of the important work
that faculty are doing at MSUB and gives both the campus and the community an opportunity
to discuss new ideas and projects,” said Dr. Jennifer Lynn, assistant professor in
the Department of History and director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Center.
Assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Theatre, Dr. Melissa Boehm
said convening the event is an important function of the Women’s Faculty Caucus.
The caucus was formed in 2015 to focus on issues related to women faculty across
campus and within the community. The group supports women faculty at all stages in
their careers through mentoring, networking activities and policies which promote
gender equality. The participants of the caucus are committed to promoting scholarly
and creative endeavors, service and teaching at MSUB. The organization meets formally
three to four times each semester, alongside hosting networking events and programs
which support and celebrate research and scholarship.
“We want to bring the campus community and the Billings community together with these
ongoing discussions,” said Boehm.
The topics of discussion will include:
-
Dr. Nisha Bellinger, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies: “The Politics of Health Outcomes”
-
Dr. Melissa Boehm, Assistant Professor, Department of Communication and Theatre: “The Framing of Dialysis in ABC News Transcripts from 2005 to 2015: A Content and Textual Analysis”
