MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Sara Ness, a senior art student at Montana State University Billings, will exhibit a body of work made up of gestural figure drawings in March.
The capstone exhibit, titled paige after paige, will be on display in the Student Gallery on the main floor of the Liberal Arts building beginning March 16. An opening reception will be held on March 20, from 5-7 p.m., and will feature light appetizers and live music by local musician Parker Brown. The reception is free and open to the public.
Ness’s compositions of the female body creates a provoking visual environment through line, color, texture and form. Through her drawing process, Ness visualizes her own interpretation of the figure, while recognizing the essence of nature’s purities. She draws inspiration from studies that suggest women who spend time interacting with nature are less likely to be critical of their bodies are likely to distance themselves from society’s definition of beauty.
An honor roll student, Ness will graduate from MSU Billings with a Bachelor’s of Art Education and a special education endorsement in May.
Her photography work has been featured on the cover and inside pages of The Rook — MSU Billings’ art journal. “My passion for art derived from working with children and adults with developmental disabilities,” Ness said. “Their interpretations and willingness to look outside of the box inspire me.”
The MSU Billings Art Department will exhibit paige after paige in the Student Gallery on the first floor of the Liberal Arts building on the university’s four-year campus March 16-29. The gallery is open during regular semester hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
