MSUB professor gives reading from new collection of poetry

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Tami Haaland, Montana State University Billings associate professor of English and an award-winning poet, will read from her new collection, “When We Wake in the Night,” at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 29 at the Yellowstone Art Museum’s Visible Vault, 401 N. 27th St.
The event is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted at the door.
Accompanying Haaland will be classical guitarist Elizabeth Adcock. The reading is sponsored by the YMCA Writer’s Voice with support from the Yellowstone Art Museum.
Haaland has won many accolades for her writing over the past decade. Last winter, she was selected as a winner of the 2012 Montana Innovation Award from the state-funded Montana Arts Council. The award was made possible through the National Endowment for the Arts.
Her poetry collection, “Breath in Every Room,” won the Nicholas Roerich Prize. Her work has appeared in journals such as, Calyx, 5AM, Clackamas Review, and Rattapallax. Her work has also appeared in anthologies such as the “Best of Pif Off-Line” and “Ring of Fire: Writers of the Yellowstone Region.” Her work has also appeared in High Desert Journal, Letters to the World and on Garrison Keillor's “Writer's Almanac.”
She is also the editor of Stone’s Throw Magazine, an online literary journal.
The poems in “When We Wake in the Night,” have been described as “deft sketches of memory and experience” and is now available at Barnes and Noble booksellers as well as online at Amazon.
