MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Montana business, industry and labor leaders can have access to up-to-date OSHA training and workshops they need without having to leave the state, thanks to a new partnership that includes the Montana State University Billings College of Technology.
The MSU Billings COT was recently designated by the United States Department of Labor as the Montana provider for the Rocky Mountain Education Center – OSHA Training Institute in Region 8. Through a new partnership with Red Rocks Community College in Denver, businesses, industry and labor across Montana will have access to the latest OSHA training workshops and information needed to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
“This collaboration with Red Rocks Community College to serve as the official OSHA Training Institute for all of Montana is a huge step forward for the COT as we continue to evolve our comprehensive two-year college mission,” said John Cech, dean of the College of Technology.
Cech said the COT now has the curriculum, access to professional trainers and equipment to provide the most frequently requested OSHA training courses for the private sector, state and federal agency personnel.
A free community open house to help people learn more about the training is set for Monday, March 15 from 4-7 p.m. at the COT’s Technology Trades Building, 3803 Central Ave. The open house will include tours of the facility, course information, demonstrations and refreshments.
Classes dealing with occupational safety and health standards for general industry and construction are scheduled for April and other classes will be coming on line in May. Learning can take place in Billings or on site, thanks to flexible delivery systems at the COT.
“The COT has expanded its ability to reach out to distant sites through support from the U.S. Department of Labor with its new $250,000 mobile training lab as well as portable simulators which can be used for a wide range of training ranging from OSHA, environmental training, green technologies, instrumentation and computer software training,” said Cech.
Cech noted the collaboration with Red Rocks Community College to help make delivery of the specialized OSHA training and education as efficient as possible.
“Collaboration among colleges is critical in this climate in order to reach out to our students and community partners,” he said.
