MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — New ways of thinking about the complex and connected issues surrounding population growth and its effects on natural resources will be discussed this weekend at a forum at Montana State University Billings.
“Land, Food and Population” is designed to offer some new perspectives on issues that impact everyone. The free event is set for Saturday, May 16 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in Library 148 on the MSU Billings main campus, 1500 University Drive. It is free and open to the public.
The event is presented by the Humanists of Billings and members of the English and Philosophy Department of MSU Billings. Donations at the forum will be used to support Planned Parenthood and the groups the Population Connection and Negative Population Growth.
Featured speakers include Dr. Lisa Kemmerer, assistant professor of philosophy at MSU Billings. She is the author of “In Search of Consistency,” which won the International Critical Animal Studies Book Award in 2006, and has written, directed and produced two documentaries on Buddhism. Other speakers include Dr. David Leuthold, a professor emeritus of political science at the University of Missouri who splits his time between Montana and Missouri, and Ralph Scott, a biologist who works as a scientific illustrator and photographer.
