Free Feb. 17 event features information, food, prizes with a summer theme

MSU BILLINGS NEWS SERVICES — Current or prospective new college students interested in summer session at Montana State University Billings can get more information on classes, housing opportunities and more at “Summer on Ice” on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the MSU Billings Liberal Arts Building.

“Summer on Ice” is a wintertime informational session on summer classes at MSU Billings. Booths and information will be available from different academic colleges, graduate programs, housing options and student life at the university for summer session.  The free event will be held on the second floor of the Liberal Arts Building near the library from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Advising staff will be available to talk with students and prospective students about summer classes and scheduling options.

Food and root beer floats will be available and current or new students can register for door prizes that include a one-day lift ticket and ski rental at Red Lodge Mountain; a $50 gift card to the bookstore and a $25 gas card.

The event also provides awareness to MSU Billings’ unique summer session that runs in sequences of three weeks, five weeks and five weeks. The “3-5-5” program is designed to help fit students’ needs on a flexible schedule.  Students can take classes in one or all three sessions and still have time for a vacation before the fall semester starts and by taking advantage of summer classes, they can graduate sooner.

For students who are currently registered and live off campus, it provides another advantage. They can pick up some college credits during the first three-week session that starts May 11 before paying June rent.  Students who live in the residence halls have the opportunity to stay in the halls through May at a reduced rate.
