LANG 295/495: Spanish Language & Peruvian Culture with Latino Schools in Cusco, Peru

This two-week course provides students with a faculty-led immersion experience to Cusco, Peru with the aim of developing Spanish language proficiency within a contextual framework. The course includes
four class meetings prior to departure to prepare students for travel and orient them with the cultural information that will support their experience. Once in Cusco, it includes 40 hours of language instruction, guided excursions, and a homestay with a Peruvian family arranged with our partner school, the Academia Latinoamérica de Español. This three-credit course includes Spanish instruction appropriately geared to the student’s level (beginning, intermediate, or advanced), course materials, and on-going and cumulative assessment. Local tours of historic sites with a bi-lingual guide and a weekend excursion to Machu Picchu are arranged by the Academia. Homestay with a Peruvian family includes breakfast and the main meal. Volunteer experience opportunities are also offered and coordinated by the school in conjunction with the faculty instructor as per student interest and/or discipline (e.g. education; business; environmental, etc.).

Cost:
- Students: $1,600 (subject to change, depending on number of students enrolled)
- Non-Students: $2,500 +background check

To Get Started

Step 1: The preferred application deadline is Dec. 6, 2024. The Final application deadline is Jan. 17, 2025. Positions are limited, so please apply early to get preference. Download the application and turn it into either the Office of International Studies (Liberal Arts Building, Suite 700) or to Sheryl Shockley on the 4th floor of the LA Building (Suite 400). Make sure to include the supplimental documents AND your receipt of the $150 application fee, which isincluded in the overall price. The $500 program deposit is due Jan. 17, 2025.

Step 2: Register for the spring course: LANG 295/495: Spanish Language & Culture in Peru

Step 3: Be interviewed and accepted into the faculty-led program

Step 4: Make payment arrangements with the Business Office to complete the program payments (final payment deadline varies)

Step 5: Finalize any outstanding documentation for study abroad

Step 6: Purchase roundtrip airfare to Cusco, Peru – coordinate with faculty leader and other students

Step 7: Participate in mandatory Outbound Orientation
