Shih Chien University (SCU) has been ranked as one of the best international universities in Taiwan by the Global Views Monthly since 2017. If MSUB students prefer to only focus on Mandarin Chinese language study, then they have the opportunity to enroll in SCU's Chinese Language Program. The Language Program is split into quarters, with start dates in fall, winter, spring and summer. Each quarter lasts roughly 2 1/2 months.
Costs and Accommodation
MSUB students studying abroad as an exchange student at SCU (taking English-taught classes + Mandarin Chinese) will pay MSUB tuition. If students want to enroll in the Intensive Mandarin Chinese program, they will pay those respective fees and their MSUB tuition and fees will be waived. On average, the cost is about $1,000 per quarter session.
An average meal in Taipai will cost between $5-$7. Most students who study at SCU should should plan on spending anywhere from $400-$800 per month outside of accommodation, depending on lifestyle.
Students pay room and board to SCU directly upon arrival. Accommodation prices range depending on the type and location.

Visa & Health Requirements
American students who study in Taiwan for one semesterwill be required to apply for a Visitor Visa and students studying in Taiwan for one year will be required to apply for a Resident Visa prior to leaving the U.S., along with a Alien Resident Card (ARC) within 15 days after entering Taiwan. The charge for a Visitor Visa is $185 for US Citizens and the processing time is approximately 7-10 business days. Visa applications can be mailed to the Consulate for the Republic of China. The Taiwanese Ministry of Health and Welfare requires all new students to complete a health exam by a qualified doctor prior to arrival in Taiwan.
Health Insurance
To ensure comprehensive and quality coverage, all study abroad students are required to enroll in insurance that is provided through the designated Montana University System insurance provider. Please consult with the Study Abroad Coordinator for further information. This insurance is affordable with a typical semester averaging about $250.
