AudreyWhy did you choose Elementary Education?

“I’ve wanted to be a teacher since I can remember. Teaching kids is definitely a passion of mine—helping to build them up and help them grow as people. I think that if you teach kids to be good, kind human beings as little kids, it can have an impact on them for the rest of their life.”

What is your ideal grade to teach?

“Kindergarteners are the best. I just got done with a kindergarten class and I was like, ‘does anyone have a question about MSUB?’ This little girl raised her hand and said, ‘I like your scarf’. Another little boy asked, ‘Do you get to wear dresses?’ All I could think is that I’m not prepared for these questions.”

How have you impacted the MSUB campus?

“I have been an orientation leader leading tours. I introduce new students to the campus and make them feel welcome. For a lot of students I get to be the first person they to interact with. Just being able to be friends with them from the beginning. Also I’m a leader with Student United Way and InterVarsity.”

What made you want to join MSUB organizations?

“My faith is really important to me and when I came to MSUB I knew that I wanted to be surrounded by people who kind of had the same values so that I could be really supported during my time here. I joined InterVarsity and it has helped me grow in my faith through small groups and large groups.  I’ve stepped into roles I didn't think I would have, like being a small group leader or being on our servant team. It has helped me grow in my faith but also just as a person. It’s given me confidence and experiences that I will take with me when I leave."

“I know for some students it’s the hardest to attend just the first meeting or event."

How was your first experience with attending InterVarsity?

“I was invited to United Way by some of the large group leaders. It was honestly scary at first because I'm a really shy person but I went anyway because I wanted to meet people. Eventually I kept coming and getting to know people and hanging out with them afterward. I was chosen as a leader that next spring and have been with them ever since.”
