We are very excited for you to start your academic career at Montana State University Billings! Below are your next steps to register for fall classes.

Step 1: RSVP for a Freshman Registration Session

 

Registration sessions are held at the University and City College campuses.
Two sessions are offered for each date, AM sessions held from 9-Noon or PM sessions held from 1-4pm
Students only need to sign up for one session.
NOTE: Registration is NOT new student Orientation

  1. Choose your campus.
  2. Select your registration date.
  3. Choose a morning or afternoon session.

If your preferred date or time isn't listed on the RSVP form, that session is full. Please select another available session or contact the Admissions Office for assistance.

What you need to get started
Submit transcripts, immunization records and any advanced placement exams

Official Transcripts
Send in your official high school and any previous college transcripts —these are your ticket to meeting with an academic advisor and registering for Fall classes. For more information about submitting transcripts, visit New Student Transcripts FAQ.
Please send all official transcripts to the Office of Admissions. Official transcripts may be sent through parchment (electronically) or delivered to our office in a sealed envelope, or emailed directly from your highschool counselor/staff to admissions@msubillings.edu.

Immunization Records:

Check-In Process:

Please bring a valid photo ID (driver's license or state-issued ID) to complete the check-in process. If you have a laptop with your MyMSUB login credentials ready, we encourage you to bring it along. While laptops are not required, having your own device can make it easier to navigate your student account during the session.

Session 1: Information Session with Admissions

Begin your Yellowjacket journey with confidence! Led by MSUB Admissions Counselors, this interactive and hands-on session will help you navigate MyMSUB, access your financial aid offers, locate your student bill, obtain your parking pass, and explore the campus resources you'll use throughout your college experience. We'll ensure you can successfully log in to your student accounts and complete the important steps needed before registration, so you're ready to meet with your academic advisor during Session 2. Parents and supporters are encouraged to attend and will gain valuable information about the enrollment process, campus resources, and how to support their student's successful transition to MSUB.

Transition to Advising

Students will transition to meet with their academic advisor while parents and supporters enjoy a complimentary treat provided by Admissions.

Session 2: Register for Classes with Advising

Meet one-on-one with your academic advisor to build your first semester schedule, discuss degree requirements, explore your academic pathway, and register for classes. By the end of your appointment, you'll leave with your fall schedule and be one step closer to becoming an official Yellowjacket!


Step 2: Attend New Student Orientation
Walk-Ins welcome as RSVP's have now closed

July 13-14, 2026. Check in at Student Union Building Petro Entrance at 8:15 am.
(Spring Term Orientation RSVP's open in December)

Orientation will ensure you and your family/supporters are connected to the campus, meet new friends, explore the Billings community, and experience life as a 'Jacket! RSVP'S CLOSE ON MONDAY, JULY 6TH AT 5PM. If you would like to RSVP after this date, please call our office.

All students are highly encouraged to attend a Registration Session prior to attending New Student Orientation.


Step 3: Complete your FREE application for Federal Aid!

Contact the Financial Aid Office for one-to-one support on completing your application. Over 92% of MSUB first-time students who are full-time receive free grants and/or scholarships!

Step 4: Secure your home at MSUB!

Living on Campus? Let’s Get You Settled!
Yellowjackets planning to live on campus—don’t forget to secure your space! Single rooms, shared rooms, and family housing options are available through our Housing & Residential Life website.

Commuting to MSUB University or City College?
If you plan to live off campus in the local community, be sure to submit your housing waiver form.

Note: First-year students over the age of 21 and transfer students are not required to complete a housing exemption form.
