Students Admitted for Fall FAQ
Attending a Fast Pass Registration event and/or Orientation is your intent to enroll. Once you register for classes and an Orientation session, there are no additional steps to tell us that you will be attending MSUB. You can track your admissions status on your MyInfo Undergraduate Admissions Checklist.
Yes. All incoming students must participate in a registration session. In your registration session, you will work with New Student Services and Advising teams to register for your first year courses and leave with your Fall schedule and student ID in hand. Can't attend an in-person registration session? No worries! Contact Advising for an alternative.
To register for summer courses, you must register and complete a formal fall Orientation/Class

Transfer, Non-Traditional, Veteran, or International Students
You will sumbitt your official college transcripts to admissions@msubillings.edu for an evaluation of your previous college coursework. Appointments are generally scheduled for 45 minutes and can be done in-person, over the phone, or by video call.
Currently, MSUB does not offer an online version of the two-day orientation programming.
Freshman
Both components are necessary for transitioning into MSUB for the incoming semester. If you are unable to attend either a Fast Pass Registration event please contact advising to schedule a 1:1 advising session.
Fast Pass Registration (held in May, June, & July) is your first step to preparing for the Fall 2024 term! You will work with New Student Services and Advising teams to register for your first year courses and leave with your Fall schedule and student ID in hand. New Student Orientation is for all first-time freshmen, transfer students, and adult learners. Orientation provides meaningful sessions and activities where you'll meet new Yellowjackets, explore student service programs, master the art of navigating campus programs, preview college clubs and orgs, and participate in workshops that prepare you for your first year at MSUB. Parents and supporters, there's something for you too! You will sign up for the Fall Kickoff during your New Student Orientation. *Students will pre-register for the Fall Kickoff during New Student Orientation and secure their Kickoff pack before supplies run out.
Fast Pass Registration sessions allow you to register early, before orientation, and may allow you better course selections to fit your schedule. These sessions will also teach you how to register on your own in the following terms as you progress through your educational journey.
YES. Students are required to contact advising to register for Summer courses. Students can then attend a Fast Pass Registration session for Fall and RSVP for the Orientation event.
Registration & Cost
Registration for Fast Pass Registration & Orientation for Fall 2024 will open in February 2024.
Orientation is $20 per student and guests are $30 per person. These fees are automatically added to the student's bill as they RSVP. There are no additional fees to attend a Fast Pass Registration event.
No. The Orientation fee is non-refundable. This is true if a student withdraws, defers, etc.
If you are unable to afford the Orientation fee as a result of a financial need, please email nss@msubillings.edu. ALL freshman first time students are required to attend a Fast Pass Registration event and there is no fee associated with these sessions.
Yes. Assuming the session you want is not full. Please keep in mind that we do have limited space in our Fast Pass Registration sessions and they do reach capacity. Please email nss@msubillings.edu with your name and Student ID so we can switch your session.
Freshman In-Person Session & Staying on Campus
A tentative schedule will be posted on the orientation home page. You will be provided a finalized schedule during Orientation check-in.
A photo ID such as a driver's license and something to take notes.
You are welcome to schedule your flights and hotels (if needed) now. Incoming flights from the local Billings airport (BIL) is the closest airport to the University.
You are not required to stay on campus for the Orientation session, however, staying in the residence halls is highly encouraged and is included in your orientation programming at no extra charge. If you require additional accommodations (ADA accessible room, etc.) please contact housing@msubillings.edu
Yes. You will be assigned a double room based on your area of study. Your roommate will likely not be your roommate for the fall semester.
Yes. During Orientation, students are required to stay on campus and will be provided meals.
No. New Student Services will arrange lodging in the Residence Halls for the night you are required to stay on campus (Thursday night) and you will be provided meals during the program.
There is no transportation provided to and from the airport. Students may use Uber, Lyft, and shuttle services available through local hotels, and/or local taxi services. The Met Transit Bus Service is available for transportation around the Billings community but does not run to the airport. NOTE: The Billings Airport is 1.4 miles away.
The Orientation Office will arrange for your lodging for Thursday night, but if you need to arrive early or stay late and need additional accommodations, please contact nss@msubillings.edu
After Fast Pass Registration / Orientation Registration
Please login to view your Undergraduate Admissions Checklist in MyInfo to confirm or change your major. We recommend confirming your area of study is listed correctly on your Undergraduate Admissions Checklist prior to the start of your Orientation/Class Registration session.
Students are required meet immunization requirements before registering for classes. If students do not meet these requirements, students will have a hold on their account. To learn more about MSUB’s immunization requirements, explore our Immunization webpage. We encourage students to check the status of their immunization holds through their MyInfo Undergraduate Admissions Checklist prior to the start of your Orientation/Class Registration session.
Please submit all final, official transcripts, ACT/SAT scores, and AP/IB scores directly from the awarding institution/testing agency to the MSUB Office of Admissions following graduation. This information is critical for course selection and can impact course scheduling. We encourage students to send any materials by June 15th. We understand AP scores may be pending and we typically receive them in July. Please login to view your Undergraduate Admissions Checklist in MyInfo to see what information has been sent, received, and reviewed. We encourage students to have unofficial copies of transcripts and test scores available prior to Fast Pass registration to discuss with an advisor.
Parent & Family Orientation
Parents and family members may register for an optional, in-person Parent/Supporter Orientation session held concurrently to their student's in-person Orientation/Class Registration session. The Parent/Supporter Orientation is held during the same time frame but families will participate in their own, separate programming. Parent and Supporter programming consists of information sessions, opportunities to connect with MSU Billings staff, a parent and family social, a breakfast with the University Leadership team, and more!

$30 per guest. These fees are automatically added to the student's bill.
Unfortunately, we cannot house family members during the Fall Orientation program. Family members are also encouraged to explore local lodging options.
Start of School
Move-In kicks off on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend leading up to the start of school. We encourage students and their family members to review our Housing & Residence Life page for details. With questions, please contact University Housing at housing@msubillings.edu or 406-657-2333.
Parking permits go on sale on August 1st. More details will be available on our Parking Services page as August 1st approaches.

To register for summer courses, register for and complete a formal fall Orientation/Class Registration program.
Academic Advisors can help you register for your summer course(s). Then you must complete the formal Orientation/Class Registration program before registering for fall courses.

Yes. All incoming students are required to complete a formal Orientation session.
Incoming non-degree seeking students are not required to complete a formal Orientation/Class Registration session before registering for their semester courses. Please note that if you decide to pursue a degree at MSU Billings, you will be required to complete a formal Orientation/Class Registration program.
Once you have been accepted for admissions, you may contact the Advising Center to set up an appointment to register for classes.
