Montana State University Billings requires all projects that involve:

  • human subjects undergo review by the Institutional Review Board (IRB);
  • recombinant DNA, RNAi, pathogens, human materials and other potentially infectious material, as well as transgenic animals undergo review by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC);
  • animal subjects undergo review by an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).

These requirements extend to all student, staff, and faculty projects without exception. Students conducting human subjects research must have a faculty sponsor to supervise the project. The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) provides administrative assistance to the IRB and IBC by establishing procedures, routing applications, and retaining documents.

It is required that each PI must disclose all conflicts of interest, including significant financial interests.  Information regarding this process can be accessed via the sidebar.
