Dr. Havens completed his PhD in the neuroscience program at the University of Wyoming in 1985 and then served as an NIH postdoctoral fellow from 1985 to 1987 at Rutgers University. He is the author of more than 30 scientific publications and has received a number research grants. His area of research concerns the effects of steroids on the anatomy and electrophysiology of the brain. He has also published papers on the use of alcohol, tobacco, methamphetamine and other drugs in rural populations. He has received a number of teaching awards and is the chair of the Department of Psychology.
