Artist Statement

I think that it is safe to say that everyone has their own form of escapism when reality becomes a little bit much and we need to take our mind off things. Our own happy place if you will. For me, one of my main forms of escapism (besides watching my favorite cartoons and anime for the 50th time) is dreaming. In my dreams, I am able to become whatever I want and do whatever I want with little to no limitations. I created my piece with the intention to show my dreamscape and what exactly goes through my head when I use dreaming as an escape. This piece consists of me laying down in a field of forget-me-not flowers and sleeping peacefully with a Van Gogh styled galaxy above me. Also in the background are various characters and figures that represent the content of my dreams which are subjective to the viewer. I often describe my dreams as rather colorful which is why I tend to use more saturated colors in this piece, but the cooler colors also represent the tranquility that I feel while dreaming.
