An Exhibition by Trey Hill
Trey Hill’s statement on his work is as follows- “The central form in my current body of work is an idealized tree, drawn from Greek and Roman classical sculpture. Historically, this tree was used to support fragile marble figurative sculptures and keep them from breaking at the ankles. This element of the larger sculpture often goes unnoticed, as the viewer is consumed by the exceptional carving of the human form. I find this to be an effective analogy for the many subtle ways we find to support each other.”
Hill is a professional sculptor and professor at the University of Montana where he teaches ceramics and sculpture. He received his BFA from Bowling Green State University in 1999 and his MFA from San Jose State University in 2002. His work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the United States and internationally.
