Artist Statement
My pieces Pink View and Somebody Call Wheezer are some of my very first paintings I've ever done in oil paint. I took Intro to Painting this semester and my motivation for them was the challenge of working with materials and techniques that were so new and foreign to me. They are both still life paintings, so I wasn't able to come up with my own objects to paint, but I was able to pick my colors which made those assignments fun. I was able to bring them from boring real life colors into something eye-catching and imaginative. I wanted these still life paintings to somehow still pertain to me in some way, so I used my favorite color in Pink View and was able to give one of my paintings an unusual name that only I know the meaning behind. The material I used in these pieces were oil paints, oil paint solvent, arches, oil paper and thin wood. These were created for some of our first Intro to Painting assignments using still life.
