Shayla Fiscus

In Spectrum

Student Gallery

September 11-22, 2017

Reception: Thursday, September 21, 7-9 PM

In Spectrum is an installation constructed of thousands of hand-dyed strands of string, wooden boxes, wire mesh, rope, yarn, hand-woven color pools, pulleys, and wooden dowels. The installation cascades from the ceiling to the floor spilling the colors of the spectrum throughout the space. Shayla Fiscus derives inspiration from fiber artists of the 1960s and examines the tactile dimensionality of viewer perception, examining our emotional connections to color and tactility of fiber.

Shayla Fiscus will graduate from MSUB in fall 2017 with a BFA in Sculpture and a BA in Art Education. She has worked on campus as a gallery assistant and a studio technician.

The Northcutt Steele Gallery is located on the first floor of the Liberal Arts on the Montana State University Billings campus. The gallery is open Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 4:30 pm. For more information visit www.msubillings.edu/gallery or www.facebook.com/northcuttsteelegallery.
