Drawing inspiration from his personal experience, Robbie Mann’s Hard Rain explores the struggle of forming a sense of individual identity in today’s mass culture. Hard Rain is a series of expressionistic figurative paintings that tell the story of Mann's alter ego, IV, on a journey of self-discovery. IV’s experiences relate to those of many young people who struggle to find themselves in an increasingly interconnected, pervasive visual culture.

Seeking to define himself through his artwork, Mann utilizes the painting process itself to find a place and meaning. His work combines references to popular media imagery, graffiti tags, and street art with self-portraiture to create a quirky, compelling twist on the timeless quest for self-knowledge.

Mann will be graduating from MSUB in spring 2016 with a BFA in Art.

There will be an artist reception from 5–7pm on October 15th in the Montana State University Billings Outer Gallery located on the first floor of the Liberal Arts Building.

Gallery hours are 8am–4pm, Monday through Friday. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
