Since joining Montana State University Billings in 2022, Ryan has infused his teaching with a commitment to service learning impacting both students and the community. Supporting the Outdoor Adventure Leadership program, he has instilled a culture of service and civic engagement, enriching the educational journey for his students.

Under his guidance, OAL students actively contributed to community initiatives including Refresh the Rims, adaptive climbing training at Steep World, adaptive equipment work at Eagle Mount, and a Care & Repair Workshop at Base Camp. Ryan’s deep understanding of the transformative potential of service learning is evident in the meaningful partnerships he has cultivated with local organizations, creating internship opportunities for OAL students. His dedication to service learning aligns with MSUB’s values, making him a worthy recipient for the Outstanding Service Learning Award.
