MCIE Award for Support of Students with Disabilities
Dr. Jason Comer
Assistant Professor, Biological and Physical Sciences, CHPS
Dr. Jason Comer’s commitment to student success is central to his teaching philosophy. He especially goes above and beyond to ensure students with disabilities have the resources they need to be successful.
Comer is the MSUB botanist and the curator of the MSUB herbarium and greenhouse director. His ongoing research projects prioritize Montana plants and include local floristic inventories of public parks and genomics studies of plant communities and invasive species. Comer involves students in his work and creates unique opportunities for them to grow and succeed.
His nominator shares that he is always quick to lend a helping hand and make any accommodations needed. “What really stood out to me is that he took the time to talk to both the Disability Support Services as well as TRIO, to see what he could do to better ensure my academic success as well as my safety.” Comer’s commitment to all student success makes him a well deserving recipient of the MCIE Award for Support of Students with Disabilities.
