Yellowjackets Fall to Seasiders in Three (Oct. 9, 2004)

BILLINGS, MT – Just a night after a quick
sweep of BYU-Hawaii, the Montana State-Yellowjackets suffered a
3-0 loss of its own on Saturday. The Seasiders led all but eight
points in the entire match and out-hit the Yellowjackets .231 to
.127. The loss dropped MSU Billings to 10-6 overall while BYU-Hawaii
improved to 8-7, winning 30-23, 30-21, 30-27.
There appeared to be two different teams on
the floor Saturday night. The Seasiders’ defense was able to pick
up a lot of balls that the Yellowjackets had put down for kills
the night before. MSU Billings hit .116 in the first game, .019
in the second game and .282 in the third.
Andrea
Donahue (Sr., Whitefish, MT) and Alicia
Cazemier (Vauxhall, Alberta) were the only Yellowjackets to
hit over .100 for the match. Donahue had 10 kills with three
errors on 21 attempts for a .333 hitting percentage. Cazemier
finished with seven kills with three errors on 21 attempts for a
.190 percentage. She also had three blocks.
Olivia
Munro (Sr., Toronto, Ontario) finished with another
double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs. Alberta
Letoa (So., Laie, HI) had a match-high 14 digs. Natalie
Bills (So., Provo, UT) handed out a match-high 40 assists.
Along with playing better back row defense
than they did the night before, the Seasiders out-blocked the
Yellowjackets 11-5. Lilly Tufuga and Yu Chuan Weng were each in
on four blocks. Weng led all players with 15 kills and added
seven digs. Beth Robertson had a double-double with 10 kills and
12 digs.
MSU Billings resumes its nine-match home
stand next weekend when the Yellowjackets host eighth-ranked
Hawaii Pacific on October 15 and 16. Both matches begin at 7:00
p.m. |
