Jackets’ Skid Continues with Sweep at Western N.M. (Oct. 18, 2003)

SILVER CITY, NM – The MSU Billings volleyball team
continued to struggle against PacWest competition with a 3-0 (30-21,
30-24, 30-20) loss at Western New Mexico Saturday night. The loss, which
counted as a non-conference loss, dropped the Yellowjackets to 3-16 for
the season. The Mustangs improved to 10-13 after back-to-back wins over
MSUB.
Jessica Bratton (Fr., Casper, WY) led the Yellowjackets for the second straight night,
knocking down 12 kills and picking up 11 digs for a double-double. Only
five Yellowjackets registered at least one kill in the match and MSUB hit
just .062 as a team. Katrina
Dahlgren (Sr., Missoula, MT) had eight kills, Olivia Munro (Jr., Toronto, Ontario) finished with seven, and Cortney Metzler (Jr., Roundup, MT) added seven.
Only one Mustang reached double-digit kills as well
in the hour and 20-minute match. Kim Tano registered a double-double with
16 kills and 17 digs. Four Mustang players finished with double-digit
digs to hold the Yellowjacket offense in check.
MSU Billings will try to put a stop to its ten-match
losing streak next Wednesday when the Jackets play at cross-town rival
Rocky Mountain. The Yellowjackets defeated the Bears 3-0 on September 17
for their last win. Since then seven of their ten matches have been
against teams ranked in the Pacific Region’s top ten.
