End Hawaii Trip with Loss at BYU-Hawaii (Oct. 7, 2003)

LAIE, HI – Sixth-ranked BYU-Hawaii swept the
MSU Billings volleyball team 3-0 (30-16, 30-14, 30-15) Tuesday night in
the last of four matches the Yellowjackets played in Hawaii over the last
five days. With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 3-14 overall and 0-6
in the PacWest. The Seasiders improved to 11-2, 4-0. BYUH has fallen
from the No. 2 national ranking to No. 6 in the past two weeks despite not
losing a match since August. Three of the Jackets’ losses have been to
the Seasiders.
MSU Billings was unable to muster any offense against
the Seasiders, finishing the match with just a .039 team hitting
percentage. BYU-Hawaii hit at a .408 clip. The Yellowjackets’ Olivia Munro (Jr., Toronto, Ontario), Jessica Bratton (Fr., Casper, WY) and Cortney Metzler (Jr., Roundup, MT) combined for 20 of MSUB’s 24 kills in the match.
Metzler also had three block assists.
MSU Billings has just four more chances to win a
PacWest Conference match this season, with three of the four matches in
Billings. The Yellowjackets will play at Western New Mexico next week
before hosting Chaminade, Hawaii-Hilo and Western New Mexico over three
different weeks to end the season. |
